In Search of Tasty Treats is the first book of three, in the Penny’s Adventures Series, written by Sandy Ecker for the 5-8-year-olds. Penny, a prairie dog, is forewarned by her mother not to wander far from home. Being young and adventurous, she ventures far away while meeting inhabitants of the prairie and sharing tasty treats. She is unaware that a dangerous predator is following her. Can she make it back home before she becomes its “tasty treat?” This beautifully illustrated work of fiction places the reader in the middle of the prairie where you can feel the dry heat from the afternoon sun and experience the lovely sunsets as the temperature begins to drop. Presently, there are no other books on the market about prairie dogs. This is truly a one-of-a-kind book. In addition, the book is a wonderful STEM teaching tool with fun facts about prairie dogs, their diet, habitats, and other inhabitants of the prairie. A must-have book for your library!

Unaware of the danger lurking on the prairie, Penny bravely sets out alone in search of treats, making new friends along the way. Sandy Ecker does a wonderful job of portraying Penny's innocence, which is so endearing. There are also lessons to be learned.
